Welcome to the postseason. #MayMadness
Whether you are following lacrosse at the high school or the NCAA level, May means that it’s tournament time. For a majority of seniors at both levels, it often means the final stretch of their lacrosse career. May brings a different level of urgency to each game. Every win means another week of practices, another bus ride together and another team meal together while the next loss means the end of that season and the end of that chapter of life for seniors. It brings out the best in our sport.
For us as lacrosse fans, it doesn’t get any better. The urgency we see from players brings out the best in the game. The stars shine brightest in May. It also means that lacrosse will take over ESPNU for the next 3 weeks. We will get 8 televised games this weekend, 4 the following weekend then the final four and National Championship over Memorial Day Weekend. Here are the matchups for this weekend:
No. 8 Loyola vs. Syracuse — 12PM Saturday on ESPNU
No. 5 Yale vs. Georgetown — 2:30PM Saturday on ESPNU
No. 4 Penn vs. Army — 5PM Saturday on ESPNU
No. 3 Virginia vs. Robert Morris —7:30PM Saturday on ESPNU
No. 1 Penn State vs. Marist/UMBC — 12PM Sunday on ESPNU
No. 6 Towson vs. Maryland — 2:30PM Sunday on ESPNU
No. 2 Duke vs. Richmond — 5PM Sunday on ESPNU
No. 7 Notre Dame vs. Johns Hopkins — 7:30PM Sunday on ESPNU
And while the women's tournament will not be televised until the championship game you can find the full bracket here: https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/women-s-ncaa-di-bracket-maryland-earns-no-1-seed/54463
My advice is to clear out your DVR and get ready to record every game. This is the last college lacrosse we will get until February 2020 and if you have a young lacrosse player at home, he or she may watch these games another 10-20 times before we get to next season. The games promise to be exciting and if this season has been any indication, there will be a ton of upsets, surprises and highlight plays!
Enjoy the first two rounds and we will be in touch to preview the final four.
